YANKEES 6, METS 4 — FINAL
It was a
Subway Series night in the Bronx
, and the Yankees took the opener on an emotional 25th anniversary of 9/11. The Yankees improved to
85-62
, winning their fourth straight and 17 of their last 24, while the Mets fell to
68-79
.
The big moments:
Cody Bellinger broke a 1-1 tie with a
three-run homer in the second inning
. Ben Rice added his
37th home run
of the season and finished with three hits, while rookie Spencer Jones and Ryan McMahon each drove in runs. Carlos Rodón gave the Yankees exactly what they needed:
6⅓ innings, 3 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 8 strikeouts and only one walk
. He also struck out Juan Soto twice. David Bednar recorded the final five outs for his
33rd save
, ending the game by getting Soto to ground into a double play.
For the Mets, Nolan McLean surrendered
five runs and 10 hits in five innings
. New York fought back late after trailing 5-1, with A.J. Ewing homering in the ninth, but the rally came up short and their four-game winning streak ended.
